Patiala, April 22
Residents in several districts of Punjab, including Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Mohali and Patiala, are expected to face daily power cuts lasting between five and eight hours over the next six days, as authorities carry out maintenance and repair work on electricity infrastructure. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has issued a notification regarding scheduled outages for repair and maintenance work.
According to the notification, areas in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Mohali, and Patiala are expected to experience power cuts ranging from 5 to 8 hours daily over the next 6 days. The outages are being carried out to facilitate maintenance and repair of the power infrastructure in these regions.
Residents have already begun reporting difficulties due to the extended power cuts. In Patiala, homemakers said a long outage in the morning caused significant disruption to daily routines. They said there was no water supply ahead of office hours, and cooking became difficult as induction stoves could not be used during the outage.
They also pointed out that many households had shifted to induction cooking due to an ongoing shortage of LPG cylinders. However, the power cuts have now added to their problems. Residents expressed concern that with rising temperatures in the coming days, the outages could lead to greater hardship, especially for children and the elderly.
Daily household activities are also expected to be affected. They have urged the Punjab government to avoid prolonged continuous outages and instead implement a more balanced schedule to minimize inconvenience to urban residents.
