Dharamshala, April 16
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation is considering legal action due to ongoing delays in the Dharamshala bus stand project. Officials report that the vendor has not started construction despite repeated follow-ups. The project, planned under a public-private partnership, has been stalled for an extended period.
HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma stated that the corporation may seek legal recourse if construction delays persist. He noted that the project was awarded under the BOT or PPP model, making the vendor responsible for construction.
Verma stated that HRTC has instructed its bus drivers not to pay the bus stand fee collected by the vendor. Private bus operators have received the same guidance.
He explained that the land for the project has already been leased to the vendor, which currently prevents the corporation from undertaking construction independently.
The project has faced repeated delays, with intermittent progress that has not been sustained. Officials indicated that the corporation is now considering stricter measures against the vendor.
Verma stated that if the vendor does not begin construction soon, HRTC will initiate steps to undertake the project independently.
He added that the proposed bus stand will feature modern facilities and a design intended to enhance the visitor experience, consistent with infrastructure elsewhere in the state.
With legal action under review and alternative construction plans underway, the long-delayed Dharamshala bus stand project may progress in the coming weeks.
