BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur, and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sanghvi were among 16 newly elected and re-elected members who took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs on Thursday, with Vice President and Chairman C P Radhakrishnan administering the oath to representatives from multiple states.
The members sworn in represent Bihar, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana. Of the total, eight MPs belong to the BJP and three to its allies, while five are from the Congress.
Nitin Nabin entered the Upper House after resigning from the Bihar Legislative Assembly following his elevation as the BJP national president. He took the oath in Hindi amid desk thumping in the House. Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur also took the oath after being re-elected from Bihar.
Other members who were administered the oath include MPs from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Telangana, Odisha, and Himachal Pradesh, reflecting a mix of representatives from different regions and parties.
Abhishek Manu Sanghvi was among the Congress leaders who took the oath as Rajya Sabha members.
The swearing in of the new members marks a fresh phase in the composition of the Upper House, with representation from several states expected to influence legislative discussions in the coming sessions.
