Patiala, April 4
A robbery in Patiala’s Model Town left an elderly couple injured late at night, sparking fresh concerns about security in the area. According to police, three unidentified men forced their way into the couple’s home at around 2am, attacked them, and made off with cash and valuables amounting to several lakhs of rupees before fleeing the scene.
The couple was taken to a private hospital in Patiala, where they are receiving treatment. According to family members, the attackers targeted the couple inside their home before escaping. The scale and violence of the robbery have unsettled the area. Model Town is considered one of Patiala’s better-guarded residential areas, with several senior officials and police officers residing there. The incident has prompted residents to question how the robbers were able to act and escape despite existing security measures.
Residents noted that similar incidents, including theft and street crime, have occurred in the past. This latest attack has increased criticism of local policing. Model Town police post in-charge Gurpinder Singh said that the police team arrived at the scene soon after receiving the information and began an investigation. Officers are reviewing the circumstances and working to identify the three suspects.
