Light to moderate rain expected across Himachal till March 31

The weather remained largely dry across Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours, with only isolated snowfall and rain reported, even as the meteorological office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state this weekend.

According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, 1cm of snowfall was recorded in Gondla, while Kukumseri received 1.2mm of rain between Wednesday evening and Thursday.

The Met office has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50kmph in isolated areas of eight of the state’s 12 districts on Saturday and Sunday.

The warning does not apply to the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti.

Forecasters said light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places on Friday, while light to moderate rain and snow are expected in a few areas on Saturday and Tuesday.

Many parts of the state may also see light to moderate rain and snowfall on Sunday and Monday, as another Western Disturbance is expected to affect north-west India from Saturday night.

The weather office said minimum temperatures have risen noticeably across the state.

Kukumseri was the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording a low of 1.8C, while Una was the hottest during the day at 30.4C.
