Due to heavy rains over the last two days in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, 35 roads were closed, and 216 power transformers were also shut down due to heavy rain, and landslides were occurring on roads at various locations. The vehicles are being sent only up to Nehru Kund in Manali. Due to heavy rain, the residents of Kullu face many problems. Like, more than 216 power transformers have gone offline. The administration has deployed machinery to clear the roads, but due to the heavy downpour, the administration faces problems clearing the road and the Electricity Board is also working to repair the shut-down transformers to restore power to rural pockets.
Due to landslides and heavy rain, school students face many problems as they have their annual examinations, which are currently going on, so students were forced to walk several kilometers to reach their schools. In the Lag Valley, six roads remained closed, forcing local milk producers to travel on foot to reach Dhalpur.
On the Kullu-Manali highway, boulders fell from the hillside near Ramshila, which were later cleared using a JCB machine, and due to a landslide, a retaining wall near Dulu Nullah collapsed.
ADM Kullu, Ashwani Kumar, stated that PWD machinery has been deployed to reopen all blocked routes, and it is expected that most roads will be cleared by evening. Electricity Board officials are also working amidst the rain to fix the transformers. Ashwani Kumar stated that the Meteorological Department issued a warning for bad weather, so he advised citizens to step out of their homes only for essential work.
