Manali to Celebrate Hindu New Year with Cultural Festivities

The Hindu New Year will be celebrated with great enthusiasm in the tourist town of Manali on March 19, with special cultural events planned to showcase the region’s rich traditions. A major highlight of the celebrations will be a traditional Kulluvi dance performance on the Mall Road, offering tourists an opportunity to experience the vibrant local culture.

According to Manali Hoteliers Association President Roshan Thakur, the Hindu New Year, Vikram Samvat 2083, will be marked in a grand manner, similar to the New Year celebrations held on December 31 as per the English calendar. He said the Mall Road will host festivities in the evening, including the Kulluvi dance event.Preparations have also been completed for the Navratri festival, which begins in the Chaitra month. On the auspicious occasion of the New Year, temples across Manali are expected to witness a large influx of devotees. At the famous Hadimba Temple, devotees will start arriving early in the morning, with the temple gates scheduled to open at 7 am.

Meanwhile, a Shatchandi Mahayagya will be organised at the Durga Temple in Manali market, beginning on the New Year day. A grand community feast (bhandara) will also be held following the ritual. The celebrations aim to blend spirituality with cultural vibrancy, making it a memorable experience for both locals and tourists.
