The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fresh attack on the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of incompetence and failing to meet public expectations.
Addressing a public meeting in Shimla during a party outreach programme, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal said the current Congress government was “directionless” and incapable of governing. He pointed to the fact that the chief minister, deputy chief minister and several ministers have themselves been staging protests on the streets.
“When a government is forced to sit on dharna, it shows it has lost the ability to govern,” Dr Bindal said, adding that public protests by those in power were a sign of administrative failure rather than political resolve.
He alleged that the Congress leadership was using demonstrations to divert attention from key issues such as unemployment, rising prices and stalled development projects. According to him, protests had become a form of political theatre aimed at masking the government’s shortcomings.
Dr Bindal also accused the government of denying rural communities their due benefits by halting the VB-Giram scheme, which he described as a “lifeline” for poor villagers, labourers and unemployed families. He said the Congress had promised 125 days of guaranteed employment under the scheme but had failed to implement it.
“The people who were supposed to receive work are still waiting, while Congress leaders are protesting in Shimla,” he said. “This is not a protest, but a mockery of public trust.”
The BJP leader said people across the state were struggling with unemployment and inflation, while the government remained focused on symbolic protests rather than governance. He urged the Congress government to stop what he called “drama” and immediately restore rural welfare schemes.
Dr Bindal said the BJP would continue to highlight the failures of the state government and fight for the rights of rural communities. He added that voters in Himachal Pradesh had recognised what he termed the Congress party’s “inefficiency and deception” and would respond accordingly in the future.
