SFI stages protest march against Himachal govt in Shimla

Student federation of India( SFI) on Saturday held a protest march in Shimla accusing the Himachal Pradesh government of taking “anti-student decisions”, including the closure of schools and colleges. Students marched from Panchayat Bhawan through Lower Bazaar to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding the reopening of institutions that have been shut, the restoration of student union elections (SCA), and action against alleged corruption under the PTA system. The organisation also sought correction of technical glitches in the ERP system and urged the government to address rising unemployment in the state. Protesters reminded the Congress government of its poll promise to provide one lakh jobs.

SFI leaders warned that if their demands were not met soon, they would intensify their agitation and could march to the state assembly. The issues raised by the students will be discussed at the federation’s 38th annual conference, which begins in Shimla today.Pawan Kumar, SFI district secretary in Shimla, said the government must “prioritise education and fulfil its promises to the youth.”
