Dr. Rajiv Bindal is set to return as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh, with no other candidates filing nominations for the post, party officials said on Monday. The nomination process for the state president took place at the BJP headquarters in Shimla, where Dr Bindal, the incumbent, was the sole contender. If no unexpected developments arise, his reappointment will be formally confirmed on Tuesday. Election officer Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj said that the window for filing nominations remained open from 12pm to 2pm on Monday, and the deadline for withdrawals was 5pm the same day. The official announcement is expected to be made by Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh at Peterhof in Shimla on Tuesday.
Alongside the state president, the party is also finalising eight members for the BJP National Council from the state. Nominations were submitted for these positions by Govind Singh Thakur, Trilok Kapoor, Bihari Lal Sharma, Rashmi Dhar Sood, Payal Vaidya, Rajiv Saizal, Sanjeev Katwal and Pawan Kajal. Dr Bindal’s likely re-election brings an end to the six-month-long wait for a new party president in Himachal Pradesh.
