Himachal HC receives human bomb threat; nothing found

A bomb threat involving suspected suicide attackers carrying IEDs led to the evacuation of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in Shimla on Monday, prompting a high-alert response from law enforcement agencies. Police launched a full-scale security operation after receiving an alert suggesting a possible human-borne IED attack inside the court premises. Senior officials, including DIG Southern Range Anjum Ara, reached the site alongside bomb disposal units, a Quick Reaction Team, and dog squads.

The court complex was swiftly evacuated as a precaution, with judges, lawyers, and staff ushered out to safety. A comprehensive sanitisation and search operation followed, with teams scouring courtrooms, corridors, and entry points. After nearly four hours of intense checking, no explosives or suspects were found. Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a false alarm but emphasised the importance of preparedness.

“Even a false threat can carry consequences if not addressed urgently,” a senior police official said. The High Court resumed operations in phases later in the day. Shimla Police have appealed to the public to remain calm but report any suspicious activity without delay.
