A 24-year-old youth has died in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district in a suspected case of heroin overdose, police said. The body of Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Mahla village under Swahan panchayat, was found near the Swahan link road on Friday evening. Local residents discovered him unconscious and informed his family.
According to police, a fresh syringe mark was found on Singh’s arm, and traces of blood were present. No other injuries or suspicious marks were detected on his body during a preliminary examination. Family members told police that Singh was addicted to chitta, a street name for a form of heroin that has become increasingly common in the region. He had previously been admitted to a de-addiction centre.
The body was sent for post-mortem at the Regional Hospital in Bilaspur, and police say the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report is received. Police said no one has expressed suspicion over the circumstances of the death. An investigation is ongoing.
