Punjab Police bust cross-border drug smuggling racket, 1 held

Punjab’s Counter Intelligence (CI) in Ferozepur has busted a cross-border drug smuggling network, arresting a key suspect and seizing 3.5 kg of heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday. The arrested individual, identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sukhi from Mohan Ke Uttar, Ferozepur, was caught with seven packets of heroin, each weighing 500 grams, concealed in a plastic bag.

DGP Yadav further said that the police also impounded his Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB-05-AM-5620), which he was using for transport. Preliminary investigations suggest that Sukhi was in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler who employed drones to drop drug consignments across the border. Further inquiries are underway to track the broader smuggling network, including suppliers, dealers, and buyers.

AIG Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh Brar, explained that the arrest followed a tip-off about Sukhi’s involvement in the illegal trade. He was apprehended while attempting to deliver the heroin to an undisclosed recipient. Efforts are now focused on identifying the person to whom Sukhi was set to deliver the drugs. An FIR  has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Fazilka under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act.
