Actor Neetu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against alleged vulgarity in singer Yo Yo Honey Singh’s latest hit, ‘Maniac’. The petition, expected to be heard later this month, also names lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi, according to NDTV.

In her petition, Chandra, who hails from Patna and has appeared in several Bollywood films and produced critically acclaimed Bhojpuri and Maithili movies, has urged the court to direct the respondents to amend the song’s lyrics. She argued that the track promotes “overt sexualisation” and portrays women merely as “sex objects,” the news outlet reported.

Chandra also alleged that the song misuses the Bhojpuri language to “normalise vulgarity” and undermines “women’s empowerment.” The court’s response to the petition could set a precedent in the debate over artistic freedom and cultural sensitivity in Indian music and film.
