External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Friday reiterated India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the Ukraine conflict, stating that the world expects the warring parties to engage directly. Speaking on global challenges, he highlighted the growing multipolarity reflected in the G20, emphasizing the need for harmonizing diverse perspectives to advance international cooperation.
Jaishankar noted that geopolitical tensions have been exacerbated by the pandemic, financial pressures, food insecurity, and climate change. He also pointed to concerns over trade weaponization, supply chain vulnerabilities, and emerging technologies like AI and green hydrogen. Addressing global conflicts, Jaishankar welcomed the Gaza ceasefire and called for humanitarian support, a two-state solution, and strengthened maritime security. He stressed that conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, and the Sahel require greater international attention.
On the Indo-Pacific, he underscored the importance of respecting international law, particularly UNCLOS 1982, and warned against coercive tactics. He also called for UN reforms to make multilateralism more effective and inclusive, urging G20 nations to collaborate while ensuring disputes do not escalate into conflicts.
