New Delhi, February 13 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington for high-level talks on trade, tariffs, defence cooperation, visas, and illegal immigration. The discussions will take place in both restricted and delegation-level formats at 2.30 am (Indian Time) on February 14, followed by a joint press briefing. PM Modi is among the first world leaders to meet Trump after he assumed office as the 47th US President. His visit follows meetings between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. During his 36-hour visit, Modi will participate in six bilateral meetings and is expected to meet SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk. After reaching US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in Washington, D.C., today. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Gabbard on her confirmation and said they discussed key aspects of the India-U.S. partnership, noting her strong support for bilateral ties. Gabbard, a practicing Hindu, is expected to discuss strategic security issues with the Indian delegation.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, expressing anticipation for his meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Modi said, “Landed in Washington, D.C., a short while ago. Looking forward to meeting @POTUS Donald Trump and building upon the India-USA Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Our nations will keep working closely for the benefit of our people and a better future for our planet. @realDonaldTrump.”

Prime Minister Modi received a warm reception from the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in the United States. Sharing details on X, Modi said, “A warm reception in the winter chill! Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington, D.C., has welcomed me in a very special way. My gratitude to them.” The visit comes at a critical juncture as India seeks to avoid potential US tariffs while strengthening economic ties. Modi is staying at Blair House, the US presidential guest house, across from the White House, where the Indian flag was raised ahead of his arrival.The meeting is expected to shape the future of India-US relations, with trade negotiations, defence cooperation, and immigration policies high on the agenda.
