Aero India: DRDO highlights indigenous innovations in Defence

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is showcasing its latest defence technologies, including the full-scale model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), at the 15th edition of Aero India from February 10-14 at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru. The DRDO pavilion features a range of indigenously developed military systems, including the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF), LCA Mk-2, and an array of missiles, torpedoes, and advanced surveillance solutions. The exhibition underscores India’s push for self-reliance under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

For the first time, DRDO has divided its indoor pavilion into nine themes, covering airborne surveillance, naval warfare, next-generation missiles, and unmanned aerial systems. The outdoor section features a live demonstration of advanced defence technologies, including the QRSAM mobile launcher, Akash NG, Archer UAV, and an upgraded Dornier aircraft with enhanced avionics and electronic warfare capabilities.

A key event at Aero India 2025 is the DRDO seminar on February 11, themed “DRDO-Industry Synergy towards Viksit Bharat: Make in India – Make for World.” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the event and unveil policies on technology transfer and startup engagement in defence R&D. On February 12, the Department of Defence Production will host ‘SAMARTHYA’ to recognize DRDO-led indigenization efforts, with awards for key defence innovations. The Aero India International Seminar, held earlier on February 8-9, focused on emerging aerospace technologies and military airworthiness challenges.

DRDO’s participation highlights India’s growing defence capabilities and its push for global defence exports through collaborations with private industries and startups.
