Dharamshala, April 23
Police in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district have registered 43 cases related to charas and chitta so far this year, with significant quantities of narcotics seized and multiple arrests made, officials said.
According to police data, a total of 6.107 kilograms of charas and 241.55 grams of chitta have been recovered in these cases. A total of 74 individuals have been arrested, including both local residents and persons from outside the state. Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra Jaswal said investigations are also being carried out into the properties of those involved in drug trafficking. He said any illegal assets found to have been acquired through the sale of narcotics are being seized as part of the crackdown.
He added that strict action is being taken against repeat offenders under the PIT NDPS Act. So far, action has been initiated against eight to nine individuals under the Act, while additional cases have been sent to the government for approval. Police said the ongoing drive against drug trafficking will continue, with a focus on curbing supply networks and taking action against habitual offenders.
