13 Killed as falling boulders crush taci in Lahaul-Spiti

Thirteen people, including the driver, were killed after a Tata Sumo was buried under debris following a landslide and rockfall near Lohni-Kadu Nala on the Sansari Nala–Killar–Thirot–Tandi road in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district on Friday.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kiran Bhadana, said the information was received from the District Disaster Control Room (DPCR), Keylong, Patwari Tindi and the Border Roads Organization’s (BRO) 94 RCC unit.

She said the vehicle (registration number HP-01M-2210) was struck by debris after a landslide and rockfall near Kadu Nala. According to the information available so far, all 13 occupants, including the driver, lost their lives in the tragic incident.

The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration, police, Border Roads Organization (BRO) and other concerned agencies immediately launched relief and rescue operations after receiving information about the accident.

A police team has reached the spot, while BRO personnel are clearing debris and conducting search and rescue operations. The district administration is continuously monitoring the situation.

Bhadana said the process of identifying the deceased is underway, and detailed information will be shared only after official confirmation.

She also appealed to the public not to believe or circulate unverified or misleading information regarding the incident and advised people to rely only on official updates issued by the district administration.
