Stock markets in the US and Asia fell sharply as concerns over the economic impact of Donald Trump’s tariffs rattled investors. In a recent TV interview, Trump described the US economy as being in a “period of transition,” sparking fears of a downturn. His officials have since sought to calm markets, but analysts say confidence in his pro-market stance is weakening, the BBC reported.
On Tuesday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 1.7%, South Korea’s Kospi fell 1.3%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slid 1%. In the US, the S&P 500 closed 2.7% lower, while the Nasdaq tumbled 4%, with Tesla and Nvidia among the hardest hit, the news outlet said.
