Panchkula, May 5

Senior Congress leader and MP Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday campaigned at the Bar Association Panchkula, seeking support for the party’s mayoral candidate Sudha Bhardwaj and other councillor nominees ahead of the municipal corporation elections.

Addressing members of the legal fraternity, Surjewala accused the BJP-led administration of corruption, citing alleged scams worth ₹160 crore in the municipal corporation and ₹590 crore linked to a bank, as well as procurement-related irregularities. He claimed that residents of Panchkula are disillusioned with what he described as false promises and misgovernance.

The Congress leader was joined by local MLA Chandermohan Bishnoi and Rajya Sabha MP Karmveer Bauddh, among others. He emphasised the need for a new development vision for Panchkula, drawing comparisons with nearby Mohali, which he described as a growing hub for medical, industrial, corporate, and AI sectors.

Commenting on the West Bengal election outcome, Surjewala echoed remarks associated with Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the electoral mandate was “stolen” and calling for a serious review by those committed to constitutional values and democratic principles.
