Yamunanagar, April 9
Eleven people, including seven children, sustained burn injuries on Thursday morning after a domestic gas cylinder leak triggered a fire and a partial building collapse at a migrant labourer colony in the Salempur Bangar area of Yamunanagar. The incident occurred in a residential quarter located adjacent to a local factory where the victims were employed, prompting an immediate rescue operation by neighbours and local authorities.
According to preliminary reports from the Yamunanagar police, the fire broke out suddenly after a gas cylinder leaked in the cramped living quarters. The force of the resulting fire was intense enough to collapse the structure’s walls, trapping and injuring those inside. The victims consist of seven children, two women, and two men.
Following the accident, all eleven injured individuals were rushed to the local Civil Hospital for emergency treatment. Medical officials confirmed that while some victims are being monitored locally, several individuals who sustained critical burn injuries have been referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for specialised care.
Police officials stated that the site is being inspected to determine the exact cause of the leak. Further investigations are currently underway to ensure safety compliance in the residential area provided for the factory workers.
