Chandigarh, April 15

Punjab police have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 3kg of heroin near the India–Pakistan border, in what officials described as a significant bust in the ongoing crackdown on cross-border narcotics smuggling. Tarsem Singh, also known as Sema, was apprehended by Amritsar Rural Police in Ratan Kalan village after receiving credible intelligence, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said. The heroin is believed to have been smuggled from Pakistan, investigators said, with early evidence pointing to an international narcotics network operating along the volatile Indo-Pak frontier.

A first information report has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Gharinda police station. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are under way to trace the wider network behind the operation.
