Punjab Police have dismantled a Pakistan-backed international drug smuggling cartel with the arrest of two suspected traffickers and the recovery of 12.1kg of heroin. Sharing details, Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said the suspects were linked to a cross-border network with direct ties to handlers in Pakistan. The consignment was seized in Jhariwala village, Faridkot district.

The accused have been identified as Sukhpreet Singh of Jhariwala village and Kadar Singh of Waan village, Ferozepur. “Preliminary investigation points to a wider transnational smuggling network. A detailed probe is underway to establish both forward and backward linkages,” DGP Yadav said. According to Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police, Pragya Jain, police teams intercepted the suspects near Sukhpreet Singh’s residence while they were preparing to deliver the consignment. The operation was supervised by SP (Investigation) Sandeep Kumar and DSP Tarlochan Singh. Officials said Pakistan-based smugglers have increasingly used drones to drop large consignments of heroin across the border, which are then distributed through local traffickers.

An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Sadar Faridkot Police Station. Police said further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation continues.
