The Punjab government has disbursed ₹3,368.89 crore in pensions to 22.68 lakh elderly beneficiaries until December 2024, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said on Saturday. Kaur said the government remains committed to social welfare, adding that Punjab has 34 lakh pension beneficiaries, including elderly individuals, divyang persons, widows, destitute women, and dependent children.

The state has allocated ₹5,924.50 crore for pension schemes this fiscal year, with ₹4,000 crore earmarked for old age pensions. Individuals aged 65 and above, and women aged 58 and above, with an annual income of ₹60,000 or less, qualify for the scheme, she said.

Financial assistance is directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, and health surveys for the elderly are being conducted across the state, Kaur added.
