Punjab’s School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday announced an allocation of over Rs 4 crore for enhancing emergency preparedness and safety measures in schools. The funds will be used to raise awareness among students and staff on how to respond during emergencies or natural disasters, including fire and electrocution incidents. Schools will install display boards with key emergency helpline numbers and implement evacuation plans for safety during such events. Bains highlighted that school authorities have been instructed to conduct regular checks on electrical equipment and wires and install panic alarms where necessary. The department will also organise specialized training programs on handling natural calamities. The funds will be monitored through the EAT module on the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal, ensuring transparency.
