Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the commissioning of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s residue upgradation facility at the Visakh refinery in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a significant step towards strengthening India’s energy security and self-reliance. In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the new facility would add momentum to national efforts to reduce dependence on energy imports, in line with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The project, commissioned by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited at its Visakh Refinery, is designed to upgrade heavy residues into higher-value fuels, improving efficiency and output at the refinery. Modi was responding to a post by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who had highlighted the facility as a milestone in India’s refining capabilities.
India has been investing heavily in expanding and modernising its refining infrastructure as part of a broader strategy to ensure energy availability, support economic growth and move towards greater self-sufficiency in the energy sector.
