Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred Ghana’s national honour, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, in recognition of his contributions to global leadership and diplomacy. The award was presented by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during a formal ceremony on Tuesday.
Accepting the honour, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the honour to the 1.4 billion citizens of India, particularly to the youth, and to the country’s cultural and democratic traditions. “This recognition is a tribute to India’s vibrant diversity and the shared legacy of our historical friendship with Ghana,” the Prime Minister said. He thanked the government and people of Ghana for the “special gesture” and said the award underscored the deepening ties between the two nations. Highlighting the democratic values that bind the two countries, Prime Minister Modi said the honour placed a renewed responsibility on him to strengthen bilateral relations. His state visit to Ghana, he added, would inject fresh momentum into India-Ghana ties and expand cooperation across sectors.
