Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has suffered a setback after the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected her plea to quash a defamation complaint filed against her in 2021. The defamation case was filed against Ranaut over a controversial social media post during the farmers’ protest, in which she shared a photograph of an elderly woman and alleged that women like her were being paid to participate in the movement. The woman in the photograph was later identified as Mahinder Kaur from Bathinda, Punjab.

Offended by the post, Mahinder Kaur has filed a defamation complaint against Ranaut in January 2021 at a Bathinda court. Ranaut approached the High Court seeking dismissal of the complaint, arguing that the charges lacked merit. However, the High Court has now dismissed her petition, clearing the way for the trial to resume.
