Nishad Kumar continued his stellar Paralympic journey by representing and winning a silver medal for India in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics. He delivered a remarkable performance and achieved a season-best jump of 2.04 m. Despite his best efforts, he managed to finish second behind Roderick Townsend of the USA, who won gold with the best jump of 2.12 m.

T47 classification is designated for athletes with a below-elbow or wrist amputation or impairment. Nishad had an incident at the age of 6 when his arm was accidentally severed by a grass cutting machine on a family farm. He took up para-athletics in 2009 and, since then, has become a formidable force in the sport. Before heading to Paris, Nishad secured a silver medal at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan.
