Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Germany’s Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the latter’s official visit to India on January 12–13, officials said. Chancellor Merz will be visiting India for the first time since taking office, following an invitation from the Prime Minister. The two leaders are scheduled to spend much of January 12 together in Ahmedabad and neighbouring Gandhinagar. According to the programme, the Prime Minister Modi and Merz will visit the Sabarmati Ashram at around 9:30 am, before attending the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront. Formal bilateral engagements will follow from late morning at Mahatma Mandir.
During their talks, the leaders are expected to review progress in the India–Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently marked 25 years. Discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, technology, education, skilling and mobility.
Officials said both sides would also look to deepen collaboration in defence and security, science and research, innovation, green and sustainable development, as well as people-to-people links. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on key regional and global issues and interact with business and industry leaders from India and Germany.
