Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Bangkok on Wednesday to attend the 6th BIMSTEC summit, highlighting the forum’s growing role in regional development, connectivity, and economic cooperation. Before departing, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the strategic significance of India’s Northeast in BIMSTEC, calling it the heart of the grouping. “I look forward to meeting leaders of BIMSTEC nations and working towards deeper collaboration for our people’s benefit,” he said.
During his visit, Modi will engage with Thai Prime Minister Shinawatra and other leaders, aiming to strengthen historical ties rooted in shared cultural and spiritual values.
Following the Bangkok summit, Modi will visit Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6, marking his first trip to the island nation since Sri Lankan President Disanayaka’s visit to India last December. Discussions will focus on reviewing progress under the joint vision of “Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future” and advancing bilateral cooperation.
“These visits will build on our past engagements and enhance partnerships for regional prosperity,” Modi said.
