Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged Punjab’s youth to support the fight against drug abuse, calling it a decisive battle to make the state drug-free. Addressing a gathering before flagging off an awareness march, Kejriwal emphasised the crucial role of young people in eradicating drug addiction. He warned that if the problem persists, it could cause irreversible damage to future generations.
The AAP national convener accused previous governments of shielding drug cartels and claimed that some political leaders profited from the illegal trade. He said such leaders had betrayed Punjab’s people and would not be forgiven for their actions. Kejriwal praised the Punjab government’s recent crackdown, highlighting the demolition of properties linked to drug smugglers and arrests made by security agencies. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on drugs.
To tackle the issue, Kejriwal encouraged people to report drug activities through a dedicated WhatsApp helpline and urged the youth to pledge against drug use. He also promoted the state’s rehabilitation programs, including de-addiction centers and the establishment of gyms and playgrounds to keep young people engaged in healthy activities.
