Kangra, September 9
BJP leader and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing a relief package of Rs 1,500 crore to support flood-hit families in the state. Former Chief Minister said the funds, announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to Himachal this week, would provide much-needed assistance to those affected by recent floods and landslides and help in rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
“I thank PM Modi for announcing Rs 1,500 crore to the people of Himachal Pradesh. This will help the affected families and aid in rebuilding the state. The PM spoke to the disaster-hit families and assured their help,” he said. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the package includes an advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and benefits under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
The Prime Minister also announced ex-gratia payments of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of those who died and ₹50,000 for those seriously injured. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi conducted an aerial survey of affected areas and held a review meeting in Kangra. Measures announced include rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, repairing highways, restoring schools, providing aid under the PM’s National Relief Fund, and distributing mini kits for livestock.
Farmers without power connections will receive additional support, while geotagging of damaged houses and schools will be undertaken to speed up aid delivery. Water harvesting structures will also be constructed to improve groundwater levels. The Centre has already deployed inter-ministerial teams to assess the scale of damage, and further assistance is expected once their report is submitted.
Modi also met families of victims, expressing condolences and assuring that the Union Government would continue to work with the state administration to provide comprehensive support.
