Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday welcomed the announcement that India will host the 2029 World Police and Fire Games, calling it a moment of “great pride” for every citizen. In a post on social media platform X, Shah said, “Bharat winning the prestigious bid to host the event is a global recognition of our sprawling sports infrastructure built under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
The World Police and Fire Games, an international sporting event that brings together personnel from police, fire, and disaster response services across the globe, will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Shah described the selection of Ahmedabad as the host city as “a testament to the city’s rising stature as a sporting destination”. The event features competitions in more than 50 sports disciplines and attracts thousands of participants and spectators from around the world.
This will be the first time India hosts the biennial event, which is seen as a platform to foster international camaraderie and physical excellence among emergency service professionals. Officials say preparations will focus on showcasing India’s expanding sports infrastructure and organisational capabilities on the global stage.
