India has strongly taken up the issue of the death of an Indian national from Kerala in Russia, who was reportedly recruited into the Russian Army, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. In a statement on Tuesday, Jaiswal expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and confirmed that another Indian national from Kerala, also recruited under similar circumstances, has been injured and is currently receiving treatment at a Moscow hospital.

“Our Embassy in Moscow is in contact with the families, ensuring all possible assistance. We are coordinating with the Russian authorities to expedite the transportation of the deceased’s mortal remains to India and to facilitate the early discharge and repatriation of the injured individual,” Jaiswal said.

The MEA has lodged a strong protest with the Russian authorities in Moscow and the Russian Embassy in New Delhi. “We have reiterated our demand for the early discharge of remaining Indian nationals,” he added.
