IndiGo has become the first Indian carrier to restart direct passenger flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou, resuming a key air link between India and mainland China after more than five years. The daily non-stop service will be operated on IndiGo’s Airbus A320 aircraft, offering passengers a direct and comfortable travel option.

Guangzhou, in southern China, is a major global hub for manufacturing and export logistics. Officials say the restored connection will meet rising demand for both passenger and cargo movement, boosting opportunities for trade, investment and tourism.

Expanding on this route, IndiGo also plans to launch flights between New Delhi and Guangzhou from 10 November 2025, strengthening its presence in this strategic travel corridor.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, said the move reinstates one of the most important air links between India and China. “Guangzhou, as a major commercial hub, offers immense opportunities for Indian businesses, exporters and professionals. At the same time, it opens doors for Chinese travellers and investors to explore India’s rich culture and growing markets,” he said.

He added that the expansion is expected to support MSMEs, enhance tourism, and boost bilateral ties in areas such as education and healthcare.
