A striking new artwork celebrating the tranquil beauty of Chandigarh’s iconic Sukhna Lake was unveiled at Haryana Raj Bhavan on Tuesday by Governor Bandaru Dattatraya. The rare pictorial piece, composed by Punjab State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu, captures the ethereal stillness of sunrise over the lake and has been hailed as a heartfelt tribute to the city’s natural heritage.
Describing the work as a “masterpiece,” Governor Dattatraya commended Sandhu’s artistic expression, noting that it “showcases the soul of Chandigarh” and stands as a reminder of the enduring value of preserving natural landscapes. “This portrayal reflects not just the visual beauty, but the calm, meditative essence Sukhna Lake offers each morning,” he said.
The artwork, rendered with a keen eye for light and atmosphere, captures the golden hues of dawn as they dance across the still water. The composition evokes both spiritual calmness and introspection—qualities that have long drawn locals and visitors alike to the lake’s quiet banks.
Harpreet Sandhu, who presented the piece as a tribute to the citizens of Chandigarh and neighbouring Haryana, expressed gratitude to the Governor for unveiling the artwork. He expressed hope that the piece would eventually be displayed prominently at Raj Bhavan and other cultural landmarks as a symbol of natural beauty and environmental reflection.
“It is not merely an image,” Sandhu said, “but a visual meditation on harmony, hope and heritage.”
