Punjab’s Chief Commissioner of Transparency and Accountability Commission, V.K. Janjua, said on Tuesday that officials delaying or refusing public services could face penalties of up to Rs 5,000 under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability Act. Addressing a meeting with Additional Deputy Commissioners (General) (ADCs), Janjua emphasized their critical role as appellate authorities under the Act. He said that citizens can appeal against non-compliance, and ADCs also have the authority to take suo-motu action against defaulting officials. Janjua instructed ADCs to submit monthly reports to the Commission on pending services and actions taken against non-compliant officials. He also directed ADCs to ensure greater public awareness by displaying boards at Sewa Kendras with details of available services, designated officials, and appellate officers. The measures aim to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public service delivery across Punjab, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to responsive governance.
