Punjab’s Finance Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on employee issues, Harpal Singh Cheema, on Thursday directed Milkfed to set up a high-powered committee to address the concerns of outsourced workers at Verka Milk and Cattle Feed Plant. The minister issued the directive during a meeting with representatives of the Verka Milk and Cattle Feed Plant Outsourced Mulazam Union at Verka’s head office in Chandigarh. Cheema said the committee would ensure a structured and inclusive approach to resolving the workers’ grievances.
The new committee will include a senior officer from the Finance Department, the Chairman of Milkfed, the MD of Milkfed, the General Manager of HR, the Finance Manager and two employee representatives from the union. It has been tasked with drafting a proposal aimed at addressing the workers’ demands and forwarding it to the Cabinet Sub-Committee for final approval. Cheema assured the union representatives that their “legitimate demands will be fulfilled” and called for swift, transparent action.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Milkfed Chairman Narinder Singh Shergill, Managing Director Rahul Gupta, and Additional Advocate General TPS Walia. Union representatives Pawandeep Singh and Jasbir Singh presented the workers’ case.
