The Union government has released the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, providing over ₹540 crore in direct transfers to farmers in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement on Friday through video conference, stressing that the instalment was prioritised for farmers in the three states hit hard by recent floods and landslides.
More than 27 lakh farmers, including around 2.7 lakh women, received the ₹2,000 instalment directly in their bank accounts. Officials said the support will help families meet household needs, buy seeds and fertilisers, and prepare for the next sowing cycle.
Chouhan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to “stand by farmers in every situation”, calling the release both financial support and reassurance of care. The Agriculture Minister also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the flood-affected regions, where he announced relief packages of ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, ₹1,600 crore for Punjab and ₹1,200 crore for Uttarakhand. Ex-gratia for families of victims and support under the PM CARES for Children scheme were also announced.
With the latest release, cumulative disbursements under PM-Kisan to the three states since its launch in February 2019 have crossed ₹13,626 crore.
