Popular Punjabi actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, known for his iconic role in the ‘Carry On Jatta’ series, died in Mohali on Friday at the age of 65. Bhalla had reportedly been unwell for several months, and his sudden passing has shocked the Punjabi film industry and fans alike. Leaders from across Punjab expressed grief, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema offering condolences for the loss of the beloved actor.
Jaswinder Bhalla was celebrated for his comedic timing, memorable characters, and contribution to Punjabi cinema over several decades. Known affectionately as “Chacha Chatra,” his performances brought laughter to audiences across Punjab and the Punjabi diaspora worldwide.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote on X, “The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla Ji from this world is extremely sorrowful. The heart is saddened by the silence of the jingle of Chhankatian. May Waheguru grant him a place at His feet… Chacha Chatra will always reside in our hearts.”
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Jaswinder Bhalla ji. A proud Punjabi voice around the world, his contribution and love for the community will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family & admirers. #RIP.”
