Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday urged the Government of Haryana to take action against officers named in the suicide note of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, instead of “protecting its blue-eyed officers.” Speaking to reporters after meeting the bereaved family in Chandigarh, Mann appealed to the Government of India and the Haryana government to ensure justice is delivered. “The officers named by Y Puran Kumar must be booked immediately,” he said, adding that he has raised the matter with the Governor of Punjab, who also serves as the Chief Administrator of Chandigarh.

Mann described the trauma faced by the officer’s family, noting that Kumar came from a humble background and his wife, IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, is “a daughter of Punjab.” He said it was “deeply concerning” that despite being senior officers, the family had to “run from pillar to post” for justice.

The Chief Minister alleged that the case reflects a larger pattern of targeting individuals from weaker and underprivileged sections in senior positions. He cited the example of the Chief Justice of India being attacked by troll groups, claiming such actions form part of a “nefarious agenda.”

Mann accused some elements of trying to undermine the Constitution drafted by B. R. Ambedkar to protect marginalised communities. He said atrocities against Scheduled Castes have been rising in 2025 and noted that Kumar himself had highlighted discrimination in his suicide note, but no action was taken.
