India is implementing climate-resilient agriculture initiatives to mitigate the impact of global warming on farmers, the government has told the Parliament. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is leading the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project, introducing adaptive technologies in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh. These include drought-tolerant crop varieties, zero-till wheat sowing, and in-situ rice residue management. This information was given by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

The National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) guides India’s response, with the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) driving resilience measures. Other schemes include the Per Drop More Crop program for efficient irrigation, soil fertility initiatives, and crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
