Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in New Delhi, signalling efforts to reset and strengthen India–Canada relations. The Prime Minister welcomed Anand and said her visit would “contribute to ongoing efforts to impart new momentum” to bilateral engagement. Recalling his visit to Canada for the G7 Summit in June this year, Modi described his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney as “extremely productive.” He emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Modi also conveyed his warm wishes to Carney and said he looked forward to their upcoming engagements.

The meeting comes at a time when both countries are seeking to rebuild trust and expand areas of collaboration after months of diplomatic tension.
