The Golden Temple in Amritsar has received a third consecutive bomb threat, prompting heightened security and an urgent call for action from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The latest threat, delivered through  email, warned of explosions using RDX-filled pipes within the premises of Sri Darbar Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple — one of Sikhism’s most revered religious sites. Following the warning, security agencies launched an intensive sweep of the complex. Dog squads were deployed, and police have increased patrols and surveillance in and around the temple.

The SGPC, which manages the shrine, expressed deep concern over the repeated threats. “The Golden Temple is not just a Sikh shrine; it is a symbol of global faith. Threats to such a sacred space are deeply concerning,” the SGPC said in a statement.

According to the SGPC, the emails claim that explosive material such as RDX will be concealed in pipes and used to trigger blasts inside the temple complex. The first threat reportedly came from a fake email ID posing as the Kerala Chief Minister, while the second used the name of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The most recent email was sent from an account under the name “Asif Ghafoor.”

SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami told reporters: “Sri Darbar Sahib has faced repeated threats and attacks through history — from the Mughal period to 1984. These latest emails appear to be a fresh attempt to create panic among devotees.” Dhami said the threatening emails received by the SGPC were also sent to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla. “Yet, both have remained silent. Why is there no official statement on an issue of such gravity?” he questioned.

The SGPC has demanded a thorough investigation and swift action from police. “The IP addresses and servers used to send these emails must be traced immediately. Authorities need to take this seriously and ensure the safety of the devotees,” Dhami said.

The Committee has also flagged the misuse of fake SGPC email IDs in past incidents and accused the authorities of inaction. “We have filed several complaints, but no concrete steps have been taken so far,” he added.
