Former Punjab minister and senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in connection with an alleged ₹540 crore drug money laundering racket. The arrest follows findings by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing FIR No. 02 of 2021, which indicate extensive financial irregularities and laundering activities linked to Majithia.

According to a spokesperson from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, the investigation has uncovered substantial evidence suggesting that drug proceeds were funneled into various entities, including Saraya Industries, allegedly with the direct involvement of Majithia.

Preliminary findings reveal that over ₹161 crore in unaccounted cash was deposited in company accounts under Majithia’s control. An additional ₹141 crore is suspected to have been routed through foreign entities. Another ₹236 crore was deposited in company records without disclosure or explanation in financial statements.

The bureau further stated that Majithia acquired both movable and immovable assets with no identifiable legitimate source of income. These assets, it added, are registered in his name and that of his wife, Genieve Kaur.

So far, searches have been conducted at three locations and the residences or offices of 22 individuals. Authorities have seized over 30 mobile phones, five laptops, three iPads, two desktops, several property papers, and documents linked to Saraya Industries.

“Majithia was arrested following due legal procedure,” the Vigilance Bureau said, adding that investigations are ongoing and more arrests and seizures are likely. The Bureau has committed to taking the case to its logical end by presenting evidence before the court.

Majithia, who previously served as a cabinet minister in the Punjab government and remains a key figure in the Shiromani Akali Dal, has faced scrutiny over alleged links to the state’s drug trade in the past.

However, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s brother-in-law, Bikram Singh Majithia, has denied the allegations following his arrest by the Vigilance Bureau.

In a video statement released after his arrest, Majithia claimed he had been falsely implicated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, calling the case a clear act of political vendetta.
