Chandigarh, February 21

Punjab is set to bolster its education sector with the regular appointment of 3,381 elementary teachers, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Thursday. The decision, finalised during a meeting at his official residence, is part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen public education and generate employment.

Mann expressed satisfaction with the completion of the recruitment process, which has taken place in two phases—951 teachers in one batch and 2,430 in another. Appointment letters will be issued shortly, he confirmed.

The move is part of the state’s larger employment drive, which Mann claimed has resulted in 50,892 government jobs in just 35 months—a record for Punjab. Of these, over 11,000 positions have been allocated within the education department alone. Stressing transparency, he said all jobs had been awarded based on merit, without corruption or nepotism.

The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s focus on key sectors, including health, education, power, employment, and infrastructure. He said these initiatives aim to enhance the quality of education while ensuring stable employment for Punjab’s youth, positioning them as key contributors to the state’s socio-economic growth.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Education Secretary KK Yadav, and other senior officials.
