The ongoing decisive war against drugs ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has resulted in registeration of 16,400 first information reports (FIRs) and arrests of 25,646 drug smugglers leading to the recovery of 1059 kg heroin since March 1, 2025. MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Chief Spokesperson Nasha Mukti Morcha Baltej Singh Pannu, while addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan here on Wednesday, revealed that apart from the 1059 kg haul of heroin, police have also seized 366 kg opium, 215 quintals poppy husk, 29 kg charas, 405 kg ganja, 6 kg ICE, 32.35 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and ₹12.32 crore drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers. Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann had tasked the Punjab Police to make Punjab drug free state. The Punjab government had also constituted a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs.
Chief Spokesperson Baltej Singh Pannu stated that as part of the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling, the Punjab Government is spearheading a special campaign, under which, residents in wards and villages are being encouraged to take a pledge against drug consumption and to refrain from supporting individuals involved in drug trafficking.
MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that Punjab Government has devised a comprehensive strategy and Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign will be continued till the scourge of drugs eradicated from the state.
