Congress leader Yudhvir Singh Bains on Monday accused the local police of trying to abduct him in Shimla. The police stopped Bains near the Congress Headquarters while he was on his way to attend to urgent matters. According to eyewitnesses, Bains argued with the officers and questioned why he was being detained. People nearby said the police told them they were acting on ‘order’.

Bains said he was being targeted because he had filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He claimed the police wanted to kidnap him and told bystanders not to leave, saying, “If anything happens to me, these officers will be responsible.” Bains also mentioned he was unwell and heading to the hospital when he was stopped.

After the incident, Bains posted on social media, accusing the state government and Shimla Police of trying to abduct him on the Chief Minister’s orders. He said police had followed him since a High Court hearing on April 7 and had previously stopped him outside his lawyer’s office and the Congress Headquarters.

Bains also said that on April 8, police questioned his son and lawyer at their hotel. He expressed concern about how openly these actions were carried out in Shimla. The police have not yet given an official response.

The controversy centers on Bains’s ED complaint, which accuses the Chief Minister, his advisor Sunil Bittu, and others of illegal mining. The ED has already arrested two people as part of the investigation. Bains said he is now very worried about his safety and holds the Chief Minister responsible. The Himachal Pradesh Police have not issued an official statement on the matter so far. The North News will update the story once the police version is available.
